2026 Inclusive Sailing World Championships in Portimão
Until October 10, Portimão is hosting over 200 athletes from 40 countries for the 2026 Inclusive Sailing World Championship at the Portimão Marina.
Portimão is hosting one of the biggest international inclusive sailing events of the year. The 2026 World Sailing Inclusion Championships are taking place at the Portimão Marina, bringing together over 200 athletes from more than 40 countries.
The main competition will be held between October 4 and 10, 2026, placing the Algarve at the center of world adaptive and inclusive sailing.
What is the World Sailing Inclusion Championships?
The championship was created to bring together Para and inclusive sailing athletes in a high-level international event, using different types of boats and adapted formats.
The event aims to promote a more accessible sport, giving visibility to athletes with different types of disabilities and creating opportunities for competition on equal terms.
Over 200 athletes from 40 countries
The Portimão edition features more than 200 sailors from over 40 nations, spread across eight disciplines.
Participants include athletes with Paralympic experience, international competitors, and a new generation of sailors who are now beginning to make their mark on the world circuit.
Different inclusive sailing classes
The program includes various boats and formats, including Hansa 303, 2.4mR, RS Venture Connect, Challenger, and ILCA 6, as well as categories for athletes with visual, intellectual, or cognitive impairments.
There are individual and double-handed races, allowing for the integration of different athlete profiles in the same championship.
Portimão hosts the second edition
The first edition of the World Sailing Inclusion Championships was held in 2025 in Oman. In 2026, the competition arrives in Portimão, a region with a strong connection to the sea and experience in organizing major nautical events.
The organization involves World Sailing, Vela Solidária, the Municipality of Portimão, and the Portuguese Sailing Federation.
